Current Status of Obsolete Tyres Pollution

As the nationwide plastic consumption is on the rise year after year, the apparent consumption of polyethylene and polypropylene in 2003 researched 15.8 million tons, which is expected to be 26.85 million tons by the end of 2010. Nearly half of plastic products are discarded within 2 years and there are around 4~5 million tons of plastic rubbish recycled annually. According to the 10th 5-year Proposal for Regenerated Resources Recycled for Utilization, by the end of 2005, about 5~4 million tons of used plastics will be recycled. However, the total figure in 2004 was only in excess of 2 million tons. 

Environment Pollution Caused by Disposed Tyres :

1. To decompose a plastic bag completely, it usually takes 100 years;
2. The used plastic bags mixed with soil hinder crops from absorbing nutrients and water, leading to turnout reduction of agriculture crops. 
3. The floating plastic bags on the river cause much trouble in getting water and even clog water pumps, imposing huge losses upon industrial production and hydroelectric power station and inconvenience upon navigation.
4. If burning, plastic bags produce a carcinogenic chemical - dibenzo-p-dioxin which also causes pollution to the atmosphere.
